About
During my final year of university, I decided to write my dissertation on a movement called Queercore, a subculture born in the 1980's as an offshoot from the punk movement, with a focus on anarchy and queer positivity.
DIY zines were crucial to this underground movement, and featured heavily in my writings. These zines became the inspiration when it came to the designing of my dissertation, helping me to present my writing in a creative way, which is congruous with the subject matter, and its style.
This involved the creation of a font based upon my handwriting, to give the publication a DIY effect, as well as the use of collage-esque effects, a limited colour palette and hand-drawn embellishments. This, combined with a more structured layout style classic of modern publications.
